2nd Monday Series - Embracing the Mystery
Embracing the Mystery
Through November, 2010
This series of 10 sessions, held each 2nd Monday through November of 2010, is focused on the core of every major religion and perspective – the “mystery.” The presentations, by well-qualified individuals, are designed to engage the audience in understanding and experiencing the spirit as understood by different faith perspectives and to encourage exchange between presenters and participants about how we approach the mystery of our faith.
Next presentatation: Daniel Chesney Kanter, Senior Minister, First Unitarian Church of Dallas - The Transient and the Permanent in Religion on August 9
Daniel Chesney Kanter is Senior Minister at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas. Dr. Kanter received a B. A. in psychology and anthropology from the University of Vermont in 1989, a Master of Divinity from Starr King School for the Ministry in 1998, and a Doctor of Ministry from Perkins School of Theology/SMU. He served on the Board of Trustees at Starr King for nine years, from 2001, the same year he came to serve The First Unitarian Church of Dallas. He was called to serve as Minister in 2003 and as Senior Minister in 2009. Dr. Kanter is a frequent contributor to the Dallas Morning News feature, Texas Faith, that elicits comments from Dallas area religious readers on topics of moment.
The series does not ignore the real differences of religious beliefs, culture and tradition, nor does it seek to advance a particular perspective. Rather, it is an effort to create a common space in which we can learn from each other at a deep level through a substantive focus on the mystery that is a part of all of our traditions.
The presentations will be made on the second Monday of each month beginning in February and ending in November. There is no charge. All sessions will be held from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Northaven UMC.
